This car is to be auctioned off on Aug, 30th at Worlwide Auctioneers in Auburn Indiana.

First time publicly offered for sale, the 1957 Mercedes Benz 190sl offered here was purchased new by a transatlantic Pan American Pilot that while on a layover, toured the Mercedes Benz Factory in Stuttgart. He was drawn to the 190SL roadster, purchased the car on the spot and arranged for a freight flight to his residence in Miami Florida. The original service booklet and receipts show that the car was regularly serviced by both Mercedes-Benz of Coral Gables, Florida and Bill Ussery Motors, Inc of Coral Gables FL. As documented in the original book, the car was put away in dry storage, and driven seldom, until 1999 where the car transferred ownership for the first time in 43 years to a true enthusiast. At that time, a complete ground up style bare metal restoration and full mechanical restoration was performed on the well preserved example, retaining its original sheet-metal using refurbished original, NOS, and best parts available; receipts in excess of $65000.00 dollars for parts and services. The Chrome was kept as is. Reassembly included a brand new interior to exacting and correct specification including the interior bright work and the original gauges were sent out and restored. A new and very correct German Canvas top, nicely finished with a new boot, all new rubber components, German square weave carpeting. Since, the car has been driven, enjoyed and maintained for approximately 7, 050 miles.

Today, the car remains excellent inside and out and demonstrates the care it has received throughout its history. It is presented in DB 109 Ivory Exterior Paint over Tan Interior. The exterior paint has held up wonderfully and remains excellent. The exterior stainless bright-work is excellent, the chrome bumpers and bumperetts remains original, unrestored and are reflect the use and mileage the car has received over the 57 years of its life. The underbody of the vehicle remains largely unrestored revealing the overall integrity this car possesses.
Mechanically, this 1957 Mercedes Benz 190sl is simply amazing. It is one of the finest driving examples that we have been involved with and offers no disappointments. The car starts instantly, runs extremely well showing strong oil pressure, very quick throttle response, flawless shifting, tight and true handling, smooth and strong acceleration and excellent braking. A car that can be driven with confidence. The car retains all its original tags, its original tools, original tool roll, original spare, original books, and possesses a mountain of documentation including owner history, service history, and completely documented history of the restoration.

The Mercedes SL Class is a vehicle that is rooted in excellence, elegance and performance, offering the finest open air touring experiences available. With the values of 300SL Roadsters and Gullwings approaching and surpassing 7 figures, and with documented sales of 190SL's surpassing $200, 000 dollars, the 190 has become proven investments. A car that possess the quality and provenance such as the example offered here, is an opportunity worthy of much consideration by any collector or enthusiast.
