The Pontiac GTO was the first generation of muscle car produced by the Pontiac division of General Motors and stayed in production from 1964-1974. This was one of the first vehicles to hit the market aiming for performance and it is believed that this was the cause for all other domestic brands to follow suit and create their own muscle cars. The GTO was the creation of engineer Russell Gee and was assisted by an engine specialist by the name of Bill Collins. They focused on turning this vehicle into a race car and with the help of John DeLorean, they had not only finished designs but also has their marketing ploy planned and ready to hit the market strong on this being an auto racer. On the other side of things, General Motors management had issued a ban on division's involvement with auto racing which was instituted by Automobile Manufacturers Association which caused a lot of conflict due to the GTOs plans. With the ban on factory-sponsored racing, Pontiac's young, visionary management turned all of their marketing plans into street performance and emphasized its ability to be built further and became an instant success.
This highly original, non-molested 1966 Pontiac GTO is one of the better examples of this classic ride with very few parts not being the same ones as this model was built with. From top to bottom, back to front, the nostalgia is palpable and not enough can be said for its good running order through all its years! With its original window sticker provided, we find many extras added to this already great ride including push button radio, Wonder Touch power steering, Saf-T-Track rear differential, parking brake and glove box lights added and the popular automatic transmission to shift you along smoothly. The exterior still shows very well with only some sign of road wear to the paint, but with all originality still kept in place, the current owner saw it to be best to keep it that way opposed to any touch up or re-spray keeping this a truly unmolested example. The interior is in excellent condition with its vinyl upholstery in great condition, rubberized floor mats to keep the carpet fresh and clean, the original dash with its rally gauge cluster is in great shape and an additional aftermarket radio added beneath the dash opposed to cut into it helps you enjoy your favorite music without taking away from its nostalgia. Along with the original window sticker, the sale includes the original Protect-O-Plate, owner's manual, many receipts from the previous owners and the original dog-dish wheels. One of our more proud examples of the early Pontiac years, we are given the pleasure to offer this up for your consideration today!
