Creator of the Chris Craft Company, Chris Smith, is told to have built his first wooden boat at the young age of 13 years in 1874 and was instantly hooked. He later built a duck hunting boat which after his friends had seen the style and build, they all wanted one for their own hunting plans. This was believed to be the official start of what was then called Chris Craft Boat Co. and after joining forces with his brother Hank in 1881, they began producing boats full time. In 1922, the brothers joined with other partners to form the Smith and Sons Boat Company. The company name was changed to Chris-Craft in 1930. After the war, Chris Craft introduced a new lineup of civilian pleasure boats in time for the massive American consumer expansion of the 1950s. That decade marked the height of company prestige and the brand name Chris-Craft became virtually synonymous with pleasure boating. The company offered 159 different models and was the sales leader in many categories of small civilian powerboats.

This wonderfully rejuvenated example of the 1957 Chris Craft Sportsman Utility boat sits at 17ft in length, hosts a freshly rebuilt 283 Chevy V8 inboard gas engine, comes with a custom double-axle trailer from Trail Master and has seen a full list of work completed to bring this classic back to life! With it restoration completed in 1990 by antique boat specialist R. Scott MacKercher of Whitehall, MI, this boat is in excellent condition from the cosmetics to the mechanics. Garage kept and properly maintained since, this is a great example that is more than water worthy and ready to be wet! With newer parts including an Autolite distributer, electric fuel pump with spare included, fresh spark plugs, rebuilt generator and starter in 2004, added bilge pump and depth gauge in 2005 and fresh tires on the trailer in 2001. The exterior sports a great multi-toned mahogany decking and an interior which stays true to the era it was made. A Banjo steering wheel, split windshield and instrumental arrangement to further its classic look, there is more comfort but with all the nostalgia you could ask for! Total weight of 3,240 and less than 200 hours on the newly built engine, this is a great find for those who love the old antique wooden boats and prefer a unique toy than one that is like all of the rest. A fitted cover is also included in this great find and is ready to be cared for and enjoyed by its new owners.
