1966 Ford Galaxie 500

The Ford Galaxie was first released in 1959 by Ford Motor Company and was their full-size car. This model was named primarily to play off of the big “Space Race” that was going on between the Soviets and the United States and although this may be part of their reason for success, the model also proved to be a great buy and could be found in many different price points. In 1966 Ford decided to go for a bigger engine in an attempt to respond to the growing demand for a more docile and tractable engine compared to their popular 427 racing engine. The 428 ci (7.0L) was then created and installed in the Galaxie as well as the Thunderbird and a whole new group of car enthusiasts was created. With very few remaining 7.0L models for the Galaxie a large following was made including car collector Jay Leno.
