This 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe is a piece of American Automotive history, and one of the most influential cars ever built. At the time, “sports car” in the United States meant a nice little cruiser. The Corvette launched its 2nd generation with the birth of the Stingray with a complete redesign barely resembling its predecessors. The Stingray was lighter, had independent suspension, and was aerodynamically tested. The only American cars that could produce similar speed were large, heavy Super Stock optioned Mopars and Super Duty Pontiacs. The United States had produced a true all-around sports car.
1963 Corvette Coupes are affectionately nicknamed “Split Windows” after the divided rear window that was eye-catching but also controversial. GM Head Designer Bill Mitchell fought Corvette Chief Engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov for the inclusion of the feature. After the 1963 model year, the GM executives sided with Duntov and the Split Window was just a one-year happening. The distinction of this rare look, and the birth of the stingray causes Split Windows to be one of the most highly sought after American collector cars.
This shining example, piece of Americana, the 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray “Split Window” is more than deserving and ready to be in the spotlight of our gallery and here for your consideration. With more history to be written, this highly documented all original example comes with an appraisal verifying its number matching engine and is believed to have originated from the sunny side of California when first purchased and only recently made its way over to us in 2001. With seats, carpet and headliner not showing any rips or tears, a freshly completed professional detail really helps this already beautiful ride shine! The chrome bumpers and trim are showing as original and in great condition, the tires, though aftermarket, are very well kept and the original wheels and wheel covers ARE included with this sale for the next owner to decide on whether they prefer original or would like to keep the Crager Polished steel wheels on this vehicle. Powering this beauty is a very sought after, numbers matching 327CID matched with its 2-speed automatic transmission and rear end which also appear to be original to the car since manufactured.
There are very few of these remaining and with a history showing only two owners, ground up restoration completed in the highest of quality, power windows and power steering from the factory which not only functions great but is very rare to find, there isn't a bad point to this vehicle and not enough can be said about its condition! For a full list of work, more detail on the history or to make an offer, call us now as this is sure to be gone to a collector with great taste quickly!
