1957 Ford Thunderbird

The Ford Thunderbird project was in direct response to that of the Chevrolet Corvette. In fact the number of T-Birds sold the first several years were much greater than that of the Corvette. This might have been the result of a better marketing campaign by Ford. They were the first to market the term “personal luxury car” vs “sports car”. Although not a lot of change happened from the first generation birds, the biggest was the size of the rear fender wings that went from a more rounded look in 1955 to a higher more pronounced look for 1957. The other change was a 312 ci V8, up from the 292 V8.

The styling and performance of these were really a benchmark for automobiles back then and this one still holds a great deal of originality as it hosts a 312ci V8 properly mated to the Powerglide automatic transmission. Believed to originate from the warm parts of California, the owner informs us that this was even owned by Jill St. John, a famous actress back then, and owned it for its first few years of its life! Although the exterior shows very well and comes with both a soft and a hard top (stand not included), the paint was redone to an original color choice around 30 years ago. Mechanically this vehicle is running and riding very well and has seen major work done to ensure this including a transmission rebuild a few years ago. Believed to be an all steel body still and with a fully restored interior, this is a real find for those who appreciate the early T-birds. With power brakes, power steering and even the A/C from the factory, this is a very complete car that comes to you ready to enjoy as a wonderful driver or for those who prefer to find them with a little work to be completed and customized to your liking!
