Chevrolet began their newly design, post-war truck in 1955 and although the 3100 Series pickup wasn't in the class of the Cameo Carrier, they put much more of an emphasis on design and style than ever before. The market was shifting towards using trucks for more than just work and although the market was on a comeback, the overall population needed to use these for not only a utilitarian approach but also for personal transportation. The first opportunity of designing a truck that could fit both roles was in front of Chevy and they jumped on it before most manufacturers. With an eye-catching truck now in the market and with the capabilities needed to use it for more than just that, the newly designed Series 3100 pickup became most popular and was revolutionary from the cab forward. These vehicles not only grew popular in the civilian market but also for businesses alike for both work and promotional reasons.
GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this completely restored, subtly modified example of the 1956 Chevrolet Series 3100 Pickup for your consideration. The build was primarily completed through a professional shop names Wilson Show Renovations where many hours of labor and design time went into completing this original looking but greatly improved model which has an all-modern powertrain, completely renovated interior and some other great little touches throughout. From the outside, this truck can appear as a very original example with some nice wheels and tinting to the windows but further investigation shows the massive amount of craftsmanship and styling done to bring it to what it is today. Featured in the Detroit Autorama in 2006, shown off in Street Truck Magazine and plenty of first place trophies along the way, this vehicle was very much a show truck but with plenty of capability under the hood. With a 454ci V8 engine mated to its 3-speed automatic transmission, this vehicle is dressed to the tens under the hood with chrome work and other artistic touches throughout the compartment. The interior is also very well dressed with a black leather interior sitting in great condition, classic touches to the dash and cluster but with much of its originality still intact. The interior also features Auto-Meter gauges, tilt steering column, billet pedals and accessories and fresh door panels, headliner and carpeting. The appraisal on hand tells us a bit of a story of its history as the overall appearance shows as a 1955 example titled as a 1956 but with a 1957 hood which brought a sharper and more aggressive appearance from the exterior.
This new build example appears all as overall factory with subtle custom modifications, hand fabricated custom build components and show quality finishes in most all areas. The build is believed to have cost over $200,000 which is clear to see from every angle. The hydraulic bed was a fantastic touch to this show truck to show off the quality of the build from the inside and with its custom fabricated gas tank entry in the hickory wood trim floor of the bed, the beauty and elegance cannot be overstated.
