Studebaker produced the M Series trucks in several versions and both before and after WW II. From the ½ ton M-5, the M-15 which was the ¾ ton and all the way to the M-16 which was both for 1 ½ and 2 ton trucks, these vehicles came with the very basics and were all very utilitarian. With most options coming with their Champion 169 cu. In. engine as the only option, the M-16 was given a beefier option with the Commander 226 cu. In. engine which was a much more powerful power plant for those trucks needing the extra horsepower and torque for heavy loads. The M series stuck out a bit with their design, respectively. The utilitarian approach stopped at the mechanicals as these trucks were much more rounded and sported an almost aerodynamic shape unlike the rest of the market. Also well recognized for their “wind wing” vents on the driver and passenger windows, this was another “ahead-of-their-time” idea which showed to be a good move in the market.

GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this well-conditioned and highly original example of the 1947 Studebaker M-16 Stake Bed Truck for your consideration. Featuring what appears to be the original flathead beast of an engine, the 226 ci mated to a strong pulling 4-speed manual transmission, this vehicle gives you all the nostalgia you could ask for from the outside looking in or from the seats within. The vehicle from the outside is painted to a wonderful red and black fendered combination and with a massive steel flat bed with the like-new sectional stake racks surrounding, this vehicle is very utilitarian with all the possibilities in the world! The undercarriage and the flooring in the interior of this truck looks to be well protected and coated to keep this in great shape as it is today. The interior is in overall good shape but with some imperfections here and there but holds a great deal of its originality intact as well with a very comfortable feel from the wheel. The drivability is fully intact making this vehicle a great find for someone who would love a retro work horse, has plans to hold hay rides for their families or just likes the vintage trucks of yesterday's past! Call or email us today for more information on this excellent example of a dying breed.
