Chevrolet was looking to make a true work horse to compete with the then-popular Dodge which had seen instant success after its release of its flathead eight-cylinder. Moving more towards affordability but focused strongly on capability, Chevrolet produced what came to be known as its “Cast-Iron Wonder”, the flathead six-cylinder. This engine showed to be a home run as it served its purpose well giving its customers a vehicle that moved a large load in short time at a low cost. This 194 cubic inch engine pushed 46 horsepower and with its newly added OHV, the power and torque was much greater than the previous 4 cylinder engine. Their slogan for sales starting in 1929 became “a six for the price of four” and included quality features like its cast-iron pistons, overhead valves and an efficient cooling system.

GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this very unique and highly original example of the 1936 Chevrolet Fire Engine for your consideration. With a great deal of personality combined with its well-running abilities, this vehicle could be used for so many different ideas from hay rides to parades! Featuring what is believed to be the original flathead six-cylinder and mated to its 4-speed manual transmission, this vehicle is quick to start and easy to shift through its gears. The personality is everywhere on this ride including its bench seating that has been installed in the rear of the truck, old wooden ladders hanging along the sides, a couple classic fire extinguishers, an antique fire prod and axe on the other side of the ladders and all the lights and graphics giving this a very authentic look! The front seats are a cozy bench which fits two and the back could fit upwards to 8-10 people comfortably and with its wooden storage chest between the two and storage underneath the far rear seats gives you a spot to store your beverages, lunches and much more. Truly one of the more unique vehicles we have seen to this date, call or email us for more information on this beautiful antique Fire Engine!
