Coming off a successful year in 1963, Chevrolet continued its popular Impala model for the 1964 year with minor adjustments to the design and even some of the mechanicals. With a smoother finish overall, Chevy shaved off the pointy edges of the models before and added a more curved grille. The rear showed as a different car as well with its new “U” shape design surrounding the tail lights which went the full length of the back. All transmissions were refined as well adding a quieter 3-speed syncro-mesh automatic option and also adding an aluminum housing on the 4-speed option. The 1964 model year was a big one for the muscle car genre and that became very evident after the release of the Chevelle that same year.

GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this rare example of the 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS Convertible for your consideration. With most of these performance minded models being built into coupes, the convertibles were not the choice often picked when they were first built but have since become a rare collector car due to that very fact. With a great deal of its originality intact, this vehicle shows well from the exterior with its Ember Red exterior, black vinyl top, stock SS wheel covers in place, the body is all steel with only a few minor blemishes throughout and overall is in great driver quality. The interior may be even cleaner than the outside with its plush red vinyl seats, the red dash is as factory, from the floor to the top this interior shows very well with little work to be done to make it near perfect if desired. The mechanicals have been looked over by a professional appraiser in 2007 during its current ownership which shows us that this vehicle hosts what appears as a replacement 327 small block but from an early model and has a 4bbl Carter WCFB carburetor, the body is an X-frame build with an independent A-arm coil spring front and solid axle coil spring in rear with upper and lower control arms as well. This vehicle was stripped down to bare metal, fully re-painted, windows re-sealed with fresh glass and then re-assembled to its former glory. There are a couple fit and finish issues with the trunk and hood but both are still functional and overall this is a very nice example with little work left for the next owner or can be enjoyed as it stands today. This vehicle comes with recent receipts of work completed, an owner manual and even photos of the body work being performed.
