Since the early 60's, Pontiac Motor Division has been routed in performance with the theory; “What wins on Sunday, Sells on Monday”. Pontiac championed drag strips across the country with their big iron Catalina Super Duty's and Bonneville's on a consistent basis. In 1964, Pontiac went one step further and the formula was simple: Put a big, high horse power motor into its smallest body, then the tempest; they called it the GTO. The GTO is consider the first muscle car and it kept competing manufactures scrambling to keep up with Pontiac's performance. This created the horsepower wars between the Big Three and within General Motors. The mid to late 60's considered the most exciting era in American automotive manufacturing where restrictions were loose and the engineers were encouraged to build cars with brutal performance and distribute them to the awaiting American public. Pontiac's GTO is revered by many as year after year the GTO remained at the top of the food chain.

GR Auto Gallery is pleased to offer this exciting, fully restored 1968 Pontiac GTO. 1968 was an important year as the car went through a complete redesign for the eager customer base. GM shortened the wheelbase, and 1968 was the first year for the popular Endura Bumpers, and things like hide-away headlights and hood tach's became an option. Today after a compete ground up and mechanical restoration, great attention to detail was exercised to keep it true to original form. The car is finished in its original color combination: Meridian Turquois over Turquois interior and is powered by its WS 400 High Output engine that during the building process was messaged to 390hp, power is transferred by its 4-speed Muncie transmission and delivered by the rear wheels. The car features power steering, power brakes, hood tach, rally wheels, red stipe tires, dual Flowmaster exhaust, bucket seats, console, Hurst shifter, Safe-T-Track rear end, dual hood scoops etc. Under the hood the car features all the correct OE components right down to hoses and clamps and features a vintage look battery. The interior remains excellent and still sports some originality with the dash and gauges, the paint is stunning and the underside has been mildly freshened with the original frame and floors showing excellent. The car is a blast to drive and pulls strong in all gears and will give anyone a stop light to stop light fun. The power steering and power brakes combined with front sway bar give sure footed handling.

The GTO remains an icon in American automotive history and quality examples such as this will always remain sought after in the automotive community. It has it all: HO motor, 4-speed Muncie, signature rally wheels, hood tach, power and sound. A great opportunity offered by GR Auto Gallery.
Car is documented by PHS documentation, a restoration binder, receipts, original owner history, and a huge file of receipts, original soft trim broadcast sheet, original body tag, etc.
