1966 Ford Thunderbird

GR Auto Gallery is thrilled to present another great quality offering, this 1966 Ford Thunderbird Convertible. The 4th generation Thunderbird was a bit of a departure that the “Square Birds” of the late 50's and early 60's. The cars were lower, sleeker and took on the futuristic look that so many manufacturers were looking for. The Thunderbird remained Fords personal luxury vehicle, the cars were all highly optioned and the interiors were comfortable as well as very stylish featuring 4 place seating, bright accents, the signature “Swing-A-Way” steering wheel and many power features.

The 1966 Ford Thunderbird is a lovely example that retains much originality. The car was originally purchased in Grand Rapids, MI and was originally kept at a seasonal residence along the Lake Michigan shore. The car is believed to have had only 3 owners with the car remaining in the same collection for the past 15 years. The car has been repainted in its original factory color Wimbledon White 20 plus years ago with the paint showing excellent. The car features fender skirts, excellent trim and bright work, signature original wheel covers and fully retractable hide-a-way convertible top. The interior remains excellent and is said to and appears to be original. The seats and door panels remain in wonderful condition, the linear tracking speedometer works well, the “bubble” style gauges all appear to function as well as the interior illumination. The engine compartment houses its 390 CID 4bbl engine. The motor shows excellent and is detailed. The painted areas are very clean and appear to be factory paint and the vin number is clearly visible stamped in the core support as well as the cowl.
The underside is original and the body has never been taken off of the frame. It shows some expected age but remains very good and very solid all around.

Other highlights include: Power steering, power disc (front) brakes, power top that works well, power windows, console, original swing steering wheel, excellent bright work, etc. This 66 Thunderbird Convertible is an impressive driver that is stylish and reliable. It tracks down the road very nice, the engine is strong and the Ford Cruise-o-matic tranny shifts smoothly. This T-bird offers a most excellent open air cruising experience.
The Ford Thunderbird remains an automotive icon in all of its forms. This 4th generation example is considered the most elegant 4 seater example built. This white on white example is well received in any automotive arena and a quality car such as this will always remain in global demand.
