The above statement was made by road test editor Patrick Bedard of Car and Driver Magazine after his first encounter of the new and improved Porsche mid engine marvel, Boxster S for year 2000. Debuted in 1997, the Boxster quickly gained respect among driving enthusiasts for superb handling capabilities; its only shortfall being only making 201 horsepower from its 2.5 liter water-cooled six-cylinder engine. Weak for a Porsche maybe, but that first Boxster out ran its competition in nearly every test. For the Year 2000, in traditional Porsche fashion, introduced its S performance package to the Boxster boosting power 49 horses to 250hp. This package boosted the Boxster's performance numbers to: 0 to 60 in 5.2 seconds, a 13.8 second standing quarter mile at 101mph running up to a top speed of 160mph. This combined with its still superb handling and short stopping distances, The Boxster S again continued to contend in all aspects of performance.
