1962 Jaguar E-Type Series l OTS Roadster
Introduced in 1961, the E-Type was an immediate success. Designed under the guidance of Sir William Lyons, the car was an instant success when introduced at the Geneava Auto Show in 1961. To this day, the E-Type OTS is acclaimed as one of the most aesthetically pleasing road going sports cars ever built. Largely carried over from the XK150, the 3.8-liter double overhead cam six-cylinder engine provided outstanding performance, as well as time-tested reliability. With triple S.U. carburetors, it developed 265bhp.
We are pleased to present this Multiple National Concours winner, 1962 Jaguar E-Type OTS Roadster. This is a numbers matching, highly original E-type that has been restored to a very high standard and has been meticulously maintained under its current ownership for over 20 years. The car was acquired by its current owner in 1992 as a running, driving rust free original and complete example. Upon acquisition, a two year, no expense spared, high quality restoration was performed using only original or NOS parts. Some of the best in the business were utilized during the restoration process which included complete disassembly, strip to bare metal and finished in classic British Racing Green exterior paint over a complete Bartlett biscuit Connelley Leather Interior, Wilton carpets with new biscuit mohair convertible top. The original factory hard top was also restored at this time. The countless hours and money invested during the restoration process would not all be for not as it was awarded Best in Class - Meadowbrook Concours D'Elegance in 1994, First Place Driven Class - 1997 Michigan JCNA and Best in Class – Bay Harbor Concours D'Elegance 2002. Since, the car has been cared for, driven and enjoyed between 300 – 500 miles every every year during the summer months and routinely serviced by renown “Time Machines Unlimited” in Charlevoix, MI. During the restoration and over the years the car has been upgraded for performance and safety including: New 5” X 15” Dayton Wire Wheels, Donlop SP radial tires and tubes, High capacity aluminum radiator and cooling fan, “High Torque” gear reduction starter motor, stainless steel exhaust, Cartridge style oil filter adapter, Pertronix Ignition and coil, Complete front and rear suspension disassembly and rebuild, front and rear shocks, 15” diameter steering wheel, Lucas PL700 Headlamps and period correct front seat belts.
Mechanically, drive this Jag with confidence. It is fully sorted and reliable and hands down, one of the best driving E-types that we have every been involved with. Even 20 years since the restoration, the entire presentation of this 1962 Jaguar E-type Roadster, although not absolutely flawless, remains stunning and crisp. It will grab attention at any event or venue.
The early 3.8 liter, Series I Jaguars are the definitive example of the model and the most desirable. A car with the history, pedigree, and mechanical fitness does not come for sale very often. The car is turn-key and ready for immediate use.
Documentation includes: Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, The original “matching numbers” factory vehicle commission plate, Original and Complete tool roll with original hammer, drivers handbook, factory service manuals and a complete binder containing restoration, concours and service history of the vehicle since its acquisition in 1992.
