1986 Porsche 944 Turbo

For the 1985 model year Porsche introduced the 944 Turbo, known internally as the 951. This had a turbocharged and intercooled version of the standard car's engine that produced 220 PS (162 kW) (217 bhp (162 kW) in the US) at 6000 rpm. In 1987, Car and Driver tested the 944 Turbo and achieved a 0-60 mph time of 5.9 seconds. The turbo was the world's first car using a ceramic port liner to retain exhaust gas temperature and new forged pistons and was also the first vehicle to produce identical power output with or without a catalytic converter. The Turbo also featured several other changes, such as improved aerodynamics, notably an integrated front bumper. This featured the widest turn signals (indicators) fitted to any production car, a strengthened gearbox with a different final drive ratio, standard external oil coolers for both the engine and transmission, standard 16 inch wheels (optional forged Fuchs wheels), and a slightly stiffer suspension (progressive springs) to handle the extra weight. The Turbo's front and rear brakes were borrowed from the Porsche 911, with Brembo 4-piston fixed calipers and 12" inch discs as ABS also came standard. Major engine component revisions, more than thirty in all, were made to the 951 to compensate for increased internal loads and heat.

The car is Black over Black leather interior and equipped with a very desirable limited slip differential and external transmission oil cooler. The car was developed for Porsche drivers education, time trials and autocross events. It has been in a dry climate, Colorado since 1995 and recently returned to Michigan. It is completely street legal and equipped with an Autopower roll bar and fire extinguisher, driver side 6-point TRW safety harness, a 50 / 50 proportioning valve, stainless steel brake lines, high temp brake fluid. The car runs on four 8 x 16 phone dial wheels on good 245/45 – 16 tires that can be rotated. The car has been lowered 0.5 inches and is set up with yellow Koni Sport adjustable front struts and rear shocks. The Clutch has been replaced with Turbo S components and an Autothority Stage 1 performance chip has been added in addition to a Lindsey boost enhancer and K&N air filter.
The car currently has 144871 miles on it and it remains in excellent condition. The interior remains excellent and the exterior paint is excellent for the miles. The car has been completely serviced including a rebuilt head with new valves, the timing belt and balance shaft belts/rollers were done at mileage 137550 miles, the steering rack has recently been rebuilt, new suspension bushings, new fuel lines, fresh fluids, belts and rear CV boots replaced.
This car has been enthusiast owned for the majority of its live, completely enjoyed and properly maintained. This car has proven reliability and is a complete blast to drive. It is turn key and ready for any of its many uses. A value at the price offered here.
