Chevrolet was planning something big when 1962 came around and the growing popularity of the Ford product, the Shelby Cobra started to catch on. Chief Engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov started a program to produce a lightweight version based on a prototype that was very similar to their 1963 Corvette. They had ambitions to compete in the Grand Touring races and although the program had plans to build 125 of these “Grand Sport” models, the program was cut short due to a leak which revealed their secret. The GM executives caught them a bit late though and 5 were still produced right underneath their nose. All 5 models still exist within private collections and although they aren't the most accomplished on the track, they are the most valuable in collections to this day.
GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this 1964 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Replica for your consideration. The current owner of this finely tuned, well recreated example of the ever popular Grand Sport has spared no expense in the making of this replica. With history a build beginning in 1998, the assembly of this model began and continued through 2002 after spending its first couple years waiting for an owner and then the next two years being professionally built and assembled by Mid-American Industries. Within this racer replica you find the bored out 383CI professionally rebuilt by Motor City Steel with the roller rocker cam setup in place and perfectly mated to its 4-speed manual transmission to make this a very enjoyable and quick ride. From the exterior it shows just like an original with a beautifully recreated graphic set with the beautiful Blue color choice that was accurate to the original as well.
The interior is in great condition with power windows and locks, a great leather upholstery completed to the bucket seats and an AM/FM/CD media center to enjoy while you cruise. The panels, carpet flooring, gauges and headliner are all in great condition and show as near to new as you could hope for. With nothing left to build and made out of a real 1964 bird cage of a Corvette, this vehicle is ready for its next owner and is sure to find its new home quickly! This vehicle comes with many documents supporting the professional work, comes with two keys and all the nostalgia of the early racers you could ask for!
