Ford Motor Company started production of their Galaxie model in 1959 and by 1962 they had sold nearly 1,100,000 Ford Galaxies. Matthew S. McLaughlin, Ford Division General Sales Manager stated it best when preparing for the new release of the 1962, "This strong sales achievement is a credit to the fine styling and engineering features of the Galaxies and has prompted us to add another series, the Galaxie '500', to the line for 1962. The Galaxie and Galaxie '500' are low price, luxury automobiles........" and he was right. The overall quality and workmanship as well as the style was a big hit and continued to be so for years to come. The 1962 Galaxie is the first regular production vehicle in automotive history to have a factory recommended 6,000-mile service interval. With a dozen different Galaxie models available, they released them all to the general public in September of 1962.
GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this highly original and well-kept example of the 1962 Ford Galaxie 500 Sunliner for your consideration. Purchased by its current owner out of Arizona about 7 years ago, this vehicle is and has been a good-weather cruiser for what appears to be its entire life, has never had a full restoration as it hasn't been necessary and is overall a very mechanically sound ride waiting to be enjoyed by its new owner. Recent work completed to bring it to such a good-running order includes a newer carburetor, new alternator, new hydraulic pump for the roof as well as motor, new windshield and seals, fresher tires, front brakes redone including new drums, new power steering pump, new tie rods and idler arm bushings, new wheel cylinders completed with new hoses as well and a nice set of 26” Smithy's Mufflers added to bring it a nice rumble. The exterior is in good condition with a factory color on the outside which goes wonderfully with its beige and white interior, the black top is in good shape and fully operational and overall this is a highly unmolested example. The engine is believed to be original to the car as it hosts the standard 292 V8 engine and mated to a new but true-to-era 3-speed Ford-O-Matic transmission keeping this as real as it gets.
