“Putting the car through quick and tight corners isn't a matter of practiced art – it's more like second nature for the GT” Motor Trend - 1968

Ford Introduced the Torino in 1968 as an upscale version of the Ford Fairlane. The car got its name after the city of Turin, Italy, it is also believed that the car was named out of respect to the “Gran Torino” soccer team that perished in a airplane crash in 1949. The car came in many configurations: 2-door hard top, 2-door fastback, 2-door convertible, 4-door sedan and a 4-door station wagon. Ford also commissioned at GT package to the Torino, the Torino GT. The Torino featured colored key carpeting and additional trim packages on the interior and exterior over the Fairlane. The Torino GT's standard features also included bucket seats with console, special name plaques and exterior trim, GT markings on the wheel covers, and courtesy lights on the inside door panels. The GT also featured the GT Handling Suspension Package, which included extra-heavy-duty springs and shocks, and a front heavy duty anti-sway bar. For 1969, all Torino GT's were fitted with a hood scoop, functional or non-functional given the motor package the car was built with. Ford's Torino GT masterfully grafted style and performance in a most excellent car.

Just out of private collection, GR Auto Galley is pleased to offer this highly original 1969 Ford Torino GT S-Code Convertible for serious consideration. The S-code designates the desirable 390 CID big block option equipped with a 4-barrel carburetor. The car offered here comes fully equipped with the GT package and remains extremely original with one repaint performed approximately 20 years ago in its original Wimbledon White exterior paint. It is powered by its S-code 390 engine, c-6 automatic transmission, and 3.00 rear axle. The car comes fully optioned, along with the GT package, the car also is fully equipped with factory air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, power windows, power convertible top, bucket seats, console with console shift, etc. The interior remains completely original and remains excellent original condition with no tears in the seats and an exceptional dash, door panels and console. The car appears to retain all its original sheet-metal, the frame and underside remain original and excellent. The convertible top appears to have been replace at one time and remains excellent condition and operates properly at the touch a button. All trim and bright-work remain original to the car, is complete and remains excellent. The car runs out smooth, the 390 big block runs out with great power, transmission shifts smooth and the car steers and stops wonderfully. Verbal history indicates and the vehicles overall condition verifies that the car has had just three owners with the most current owner keeping the car for the last 20 years until our recent acquisition.

American Performance Convertibles remain highly popular in the expanding global collector market, and Fords Torino GT is on the top of many lists. A highly original, non molested example such as this is a great classic convertible to be driven and enjoyed while remaining a great addition to your investment portfolio. The car comes complete with owners manual, original jack and spare and all factory numbers and tags in place.
