The concept of a performance based coupe that would put a significant shot in the arm for both Mitsubishi and Dodge was designed and introduced in 1989 at the Tokyo Motor Show. This concept was met with mixed reviews as both companies had previous joint ventures and were not huge successes. However, this concept turned to reality in 1990 with the debut of the Mitsubishi 3000 and the Dodge Stealth. Both offered a very similar design and build with minor cosmetic touches to set them apart.
