1955 Ford Thunderbird

Proud to bring to market here at the GR Auto Gallery is this period correct first year Thunderbird. Ford's answer to the very popular Corvette, the Thunderbird had to not only put Ford back on the radar for the people that wanted a roadster but also one that had some power. The first year the T-Bird out sold the smaller corvette almost 23-1 ratio. Ford not only wanted a sporty roadster, but a car that was enjoyable to drive. Success was multiplied with the performance and style that left dealerships begging for more inventory in the mid to late 50's.
The 1955 Ford Thunderbird offered here has been under the same ownership for over 50 years. It has recently been treated to a complete restoration approximately 12 years finished in its rare and desirable factory color combination: Goldenrod Yellow over Black and Yellow two tone interior. The car is highly optioned, powered by its 292 cubic inch V8 with 2 speed automatic transmission and rear wheel drive. Factory options include: Power steering, power brakes, power windows, power seat, AM radio, tachometer, fender skirts, etc.
Cosmetically, the car is outstanding. The two tone interior features excellent seat upholstery, excellent dash top with tooled aluminum dash fascia and door trim, excellent original gauges, newer carpet, etc. The Goldenrod Yellow exterior paint is flat, glossy and shows an outstanding finish, the engine compartment is highly detailed with including all new lines, hoses, fittings, belts and so on, and the frame and underside are restored including all new suspension and suspension components including new shocks, bushings, seals, and so on. The convertible Hartz cloth softtop is new and excellent and the car comes with a matching hard top with signature “port hole” window. As a finishing touch, the car has been fitted with Kelsey Hayes wire wheels with wide white wall tires.
The first generation Thunderbirds are an American icon and on the must have list of any collector. The car offered here in its rare color, high options, mechanical fitness and restoration quality is one to consider.
