GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this 1981 BMW 635CSi, a rare and highly sought-after grey-market example that was expertly imported and modified by Dietel Enterprises, a California-based BMW tuner and authorized Alpina distributor. This unique E24 is powered by a factory-turbocharged M102 inline-six engine, mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, offering an exhilarating driving experience that's as unique as the car itself.

The performance of this 635CSi is further enhanced by a suite of Alpina upgrades, including advanced suspension components, drilled and slotted rotors, and a set of staggered 16-inch Alpina alloy wheels. With its slimmer Euro bumpers, front headlight wiper system, yellow lamps, and clear front corner lenses and driving lamps, this BMW showcases the classic European styling that makes it stand out from its peers. The car was refinished in its striking metallic black paint in 2006, a job that came with a significant investment of $7,555.

Inside, the cabin has been tastefully upgraded while retaining its classic charm. The tan leather Recaro seats have been reupholstered, paired with fresh black carpeting for a rejuvenated look. A leather-wrapped Alpina/Momo steering wheel, AC Schnitzer pedals, and a stock gear shifter greet the driver, creating an environment that's both sporty and luxurious. Modern conveniences include a Parrot Bluetooth kit, Pioneer CD head unit, Memphis M-Class 1400-watt amplifier, and premium speakers, ensuring that every drive is as enjoyable as it is engaging.

This 635CSi has a rich history, with the M102 engine sourced from a Euro-market E23 745i. This 3.2-liter SOHC inline-six, equipped with an air-to-air intercooler and K-27 turbocharger, delivers impressive acceleration, particularly above 2,600 rpm when the boost starts to build. Dietel Enterprises converted this BMW to an “Alpina,” complete with a separate oil cooler and a new ECU, making it a truly special piece of automotive history. The car was featured in the final issue of Bimmer Magazine in April 2017, and it has garnered recognition, such as being selected as the Driver's Choice for Best 6/7 Series at the 10th annual SoCal Vintage BMW event.
